
I grew up with my grandma working 2 jobs hurt in her body bc of arthritis. If she’s out somewhere she will drop everything just to make sure she’s home so my grandpa has a cooked meal for work and is fed. Gotta make sure the house is cleaned up afterwards too. She tells me that this is a woman’s duty. I can tell she’s miserable at times despite loving her husband and the stress she lives with has made her sicker. I made an oath to myself that I will never be that kind of woman to a man
My grandmother told me a few years back that she had always wanted to be an archaeologist. She never told anyone until that day, but I got a job with an anthropology department and that triggered something in her to share. She gave up her dream to be with her husband, and now she can’t live her dream because she’s too old. My grandfather didn’t even know she wanted to be an archaeologist after knowing her for 60 years. My poor grandmother couldn’t follow her dreams because it wasn’t socially
acceptable back in those days, and so she married young instead. My heart breaks for her. Even after giving up on her dream 60 years ago, I could still hear her passion and sadness for a career that she never got to build. In another life, she was a world-renowned archaeologist who traveled the world going to digs
