I think it means you gain weight because you’re spending time with your wife and kids and aren’t able to go to the gym and work out as much. Doesn’t mean you’re fat, but is realistic because you’re probably not keeping a 6 pack as an active dad with a job

I hate body shaming. Even if I workout and eat healthy. I still get called fat or “need to loose weight” I see it online all the time there’s this amazing ex gymnast who’s started back and she’s plus size doing flips and bars. Getting fat hate… bitch.. I want your butt to try all that.

I understand this pov but men are so quick to shame women for their bodies not “bouncing back” after having kids but then they have no problem with men gaining weight after becoming fathers. It’s a weird double standard

I agree the double standard is fucked but many ppl are attracted to or are fat and that’s okay too 😭 it’s not a trick nor does it necessarily mean they’re unfit. Unfit is a exercise status not a body type

Low key because people refuse to accept BMI calculations so we have tons of terms instead of just saying overweight/ fat. Post that BMI isn’t bs and see how many people disagree

Okay but bmi is very much bs and they don’t even use the term fat lmao. But they should

See what I mean lol? Between BMI and your body fat % the math is pretty correct. Someone 30 lbs overweight with 35% body fat isn’t in shape lol

It was never meant to measure health tho and there’s so much research to back up that it’s a poor and inaccurate indicator of health. It was developed only measuring white men and was used as a simple statistical tool to compare populations with each other. Also you’re pathologizing body sizes instead of just using neutral descriptors like fat or thin 😭

Also again being in shape isn’t about your body size it’s about your level of fitness 😭 fat ppl can absolutely be in shape just like many thin ppl aren’t in shape

I think there’s a level of size, weight, and muscle mass where being fit by medical standards is impossible. Not to say you can’t be unfit at any size though

I thought it’s bc when men have children they also get a drop in their testosterone which decreases their normal testosterone

Fat people with normal testosterone exist

upvote 3 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #7 8w

No I mean like I think that’s where the term came from bc since men have testosterone they build muscle and have less fat much easier naturally but when their testosterone decreases they start getting more chubby doing the same stuff

Why not? They never show women grace for it

BMI was made by a mathematician using cis white men as the scale. BMI is outdated and does not show anything of actual importance. It fails to account for the fact that women have more fat than men due to our reproductive organs and breasts. It additionally does not take into account race factors. No doctor today uses BMI as a sole indicator for healthiness, most have thrown it out completely. Because it was never made by a doctor, it was made by a racist eugenicist.

Testosterone doesn’t drop the moment a woman pushes a baby out of her. That doesn’t make any sense

i’m with you on that. women have so many more biological causes for weight gain than men do and I agree that the double standard is infuriating, but fighting back with more hate and body shaming doesn’t get us anywhere.

Modern BMI math has been validated since the original 1800’s study. No doctor just uses BMI as a scale. It’s still used as a screening tool because it correlates with higher risks of diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and other conditions. Doctors also consider body fat %, waist size, fitness, and lab work as well

I never disputed that testosterone drops when you become a dad. I highlighted that there’s likely also a lifestyle change that makes it harder to be in as good of physical shape due to increased responsibilities at home

Def not all mean it to trick but in my experience it’s been to manipulate or trick women into thinking a body type they are not into is attractive. All body types are great but it’s always to try to change your mind and it’s a double standards when that body type in a woman isn’t okay with that exact same person

i think no matter how much you try to push the dad bod as a hot standard, the women who like muscular men only are only gonna go for them. i think my bf has a dad bod because he is the father of all my food babies (i am well fed in his care)
