basically NPS SUCKS at holding accused harassers accountable and will often promote, reassign to another location, or allow them to resign/retire to avoid being fired and so it won’t go on their record. also a lot of women who are assaulted/harassed often don’t report because of fear of retaliation.

one lady said she believes shes on some sort of hiring blacklist in the state where she reported the harassment, she can be hired in every other state EXCEPT for the one she reported in.

and apparently the harassment is so common that it’s like normalized, women are told in the field that it’s just “the unfortunate reality for women in (insert NPS or U.S. Forest service job)”

AND THEN!!!!!!!!!! women are something discriminated against and aren’t considered for fieldwork research in backcountry because of womanly things.

my major emphasis area sort of revolves around getting hired in NPS (i’m not doing that though) and it was a massive rabbit hole i fell down

and now that a lot of people have been let go, there’s even LESS support / ways to report which doesn’t seem like a lot cause they’re not listened to anyways but now it’s somehow worse

i also!!! learned about the yosemite school of field research (i definitely got the name wrong) that was opened in 1925 and it was basically meant to train naturalists and fieldwork based jobs, even though they let women do the school and trainings- they weren’t ever hired. 😐 and it was often a thing of “we don’t hire women” 🤨 then why the fuck u letting women attend the school

women would also be not hired BUT the NPS would use their research and information as their own 😐😐😐 which isn’t entirely surprising but god damn
