okay are yall northerners just fucking assholes cuz my friend from new hampshire came to visit me in north carolina and they were amazed by a simple “hi welcome in! how are yall doing?” that you get when you walk in somewhere here 😭

from MA, walking into a store and being greeted by a full sentence is absolute whiplash to me. first time i was in the south (NC actually lol) i got greeted in a thrift store by i presume the owner, he said like a full sentence but i was so shocked that i froze up and didnt process it at all. like dude idk u why are u speaking to me. thats not expected up here, so its not “rude” to not do it yk? and i usually want to browse on my own in a store unless im looking for something specific.

From upstate NY and I wouldn’t say assholes bc genuinely whenever someone says they’re surprised by that I kinda just assume they don’t go out much bc there’s so many spots where people are this nice to you daily, HOWEVER I will say there’s more of an expectation of get in and get out in a lot of places you go just socially and bc it’s heavily drilled in here to not waste yours or other people’s time and to skip small talk or certain pleasantries every now and then so maybe that’s it? Idc tbh 😭

I live in NC too and had some friends from Rhode Island come visit and they were so rude to EVERYONE it was crazy

its def an nc thing! it seems my parents just didn’t do that and called them carts so thats what i know them as 😭 my moms parents are from NJ and NY where they call them carts so that could be why too!

like in a retail store you’ll probably be asked “hi, can i help u with anything today?” or something along those lines and if there is u just tell them and get down to getting that goal complete. also i think the extra jumpscare for me in the south is when it’s an older man speaking to me.
