For general info: 1. Take a pregnancy test immediately after and if it’s negative, you weren’t pregnant generally. 2. A miscarriage doesn’t normally look like a blood clot, it will be mainly tissue maybe a grey or pink color but with blood.

Blood clots basically melt if you poke it, easily falls apart and can be moved (unless it’s dried), tissue will stick together and look mostly smooth so if you poke it you will just have a tear in the tissue. Uterine lining is normally a deep red color so you could just pass a large piece of your lining (especially if you have a thick endometrium or get decidual casts). Tissue from a pregnancy is a light color and is distinct from uterine lining.

These are the general guidelines but not 100% accurate all the time. You can pass lighter tissue type things and it not be a miscarriage, like if you had a yeast infection, used different kinds of lube, or had an abscess in your uterus.

I’ve had decidual casts, giant clots, and I’ve had a miscarriage, they looked nothing alike. Hopefully my experience & information can help put your mind at ease next time you have a bad period to help discern what’s going on!
