Here’s something radical- If your man works with AI, on AI or in anyway uses AI that isn’t strictly as an AI researcher studying the ethical ways to stop AI through legal policies, he’s as bad as maga. AI is destroying the planet

Also if an entire community is actively telling you they don’t want to hear about ai, stop making posts about it

You seem to have think that individualistic use of AI has more of an environmental impact than the major corporations who have been destroying the world. Wake the fuck up. Unless we destroy the system (like literally) the planet will transform and there’s nothing we can do to stop it.

i work in AI kinda (using agentics & SLMs in environmental applications and as climate policy tools) and like. you’re not wrong. but basically everything else is worse by an order of magnitude

Exactly!!! I can’t even go on fucking Pinterest anymore without being presented with AI slop. I don’t care if her bf worked on it, it’s garbage prompts in garbage out

Do you host your own AI system or do you pay someone else to use theirs?

it depends on which product, most of our stuff is proprietary/for someone else and we cant control what they do with it. of the two things we operate, one is hosted in the eu and one in china

right. other pervasive industries that cause enormous amounts of harm in grotesque ways go unopposed, like factory farming, but government mismanagement of the nascent ai industry is somehow the bigger threat

“Everything is else is worse” what does this even MEAN

well for instance, compared to the meat industry, the environmental cost of AI use is quite low. like i agree that the AI industry is being mismanaged by bad faith actors and is going to do way more harm than necessary, but it’s not even gonna crack the top ten pollutors ever

Because it’s easier (and much cheaper) for governments to blame the individual consumer than it is to regulate industry or discover new green energy sources :/

yeah. its funny. coca cola invented this tactic in the 20s to take the blame off themselves for plastic bottle waste. the word “litterbug” was invented for the campaign
