Keep to your side, you will make a roommate contract and layout how you want your lives to flow together, keep the trash clean and out, suggest a floor cleaning routine it will get dirty in winter, agree to get dinner together at least once a week, don’t sit around the fastest way to make a friend in them is to go do smth together, grocery shop, event, etc. invite them out with your friends, don’t bring personal habits from home into the room you are living communal now like shower singing

if you have contraband don’t tell them until they’re friends and def don’t tell them where it is and keep moving its hiding place

good advice here, the only thing i would emphasize is that roommate contract and going in depth about who will do what chores. some things to consider: how long of a notice do each of you need before a guest is brought over? when is “lights out”? how often should communal spaces be cleaned?

remember that they’re people too and could have something going on that’s you don’t know about, super important!!
