yes but also children neeeed to be taken into public and learn how to behave in these situations. sometimes theyāre going to misbehave, which is okay, but the parents should be watching and correcting them. kids will be chaotic and need to be put in situations where they have to be taught to control their chaos
i mean sure, in theory. but in reality those are two completely different environments with different expectations. not to mention that a lot of parents canāt just leave their kids behind and go out in public. people need to grocery shop, use public transportation, go to appointments, and go to the bank, etc and not everyone has somewhere else to leave the kids while they do
Honestly I donāt think this post is saying anything different than you are. OPās not saying that kids shouldnāt exist in public spaces, just that their parents should parent them. I know thereās some people that literally get upset at children for existing (especially babies) but Iām not getting that vibe from OP
Two months ago I was on a flight and this mom and dad had three kids. Their kids started freaking out when the flight attendant told them they had to be sitting in their seat during take off. The kids were so noisy about it and neither parent tried to do anything so the whole plane had to sit and listen to their children. Even the flight attendants were pissed cause the parents did nothing to get their kids in their seats
Yeah playground-only is a bit out of touch š and it drives me crazy when people get upset abt kids on airplanes, esp babies/toddlers. How do they expect families to get to their destinations lmaooo + thereās a huge difference between a restless child during an hour-long dinner and a restless child stuck in an airplane seat for multiple hours. Iām 23 and I struggle to not start bouncing off the walls on flights š
my mom had to drag 4 children everywhere she went. it was miserable for her. she had to leash us and we still would run away. thereās only so much you can do to placate children in an environment where theyāre bored like a grocery store or airport. even less if youāre there to perform a task thatās taking some of your attention. children have to go to public spaces and we have to give parents grace as they try their best to keep them as under control as possible
Outside of this context, I think those statements are often pretty funny because theyāre just so short sighted. āPeople these days donāt want to have to program a VCRā okay?? We also donāt want to use an abacus. Thatās how the advancement of technology works. My kids will likely never touch a tape recorder, the same way Iāve never attempted writing by chiseling a stone tablet. Life moves on.
I guess that itās kinda the same in this scenario too. Kids probably werenāt as much of a public disturbance however many years ago because theyād be left home alone or get beaten for speaking out of turn. Itās not that āparents these days donāt want to raise their children correctlyā, itās just that the method of negligence now effects the nearby adults rather than stunting the childās brain development
i think it also has a little to do with the wealth gap in our country widening. childcare is less and less affordable and people are left with no choice but to drag their kids on errands. and yeah technology plays a part but before ipads they stuck kids in front of tvs and before tvs they just left them to their own devices. neglectful parents have always existed
Iāve noticed a lot of them donāt even want to be parents. They just had kids cause their friends were having kids and now they are stuck with them. Itās sad, but itās what Iāve been seeing. 4 and 5 can yap all they want and sure that can be their experiences, but I know teachers who have been teaching for decades and they have also stated how bad kids are getting lately
I had a math teacher who told me the reason she chose to teach at the community college is cause she didnāt want to help a little kid blow their nose, the 5th through 8th are all bullies, and then in high school she was afraid of giving a bad grade cause she had a teacher tell her a student committed due to getting a bad grade and she didnāt want to be their final straw
