It’s actually so funny that not having kids is often considered selfish because a lot of my reasons for not wanting kids are actually very selfless. I am not confident in my ability to raise a child with all the skills necessary to be a meaningful member of society. I also think I would be a HORRIBLE mother on so many levels, and I don’t want to put a kid through that just because society thinks that’s what should happen.

I think communities should raise children. I don’t think money should factor into a kids life until they are old enough to make their own. And this would be true if we had more damn women in power!

Cheers to that! Ive done a couple urban design concepts with tribes where we listened to the intergenerational living context from elders, studied the impacts settler colonialism has had in breaking those ties and the adverse health outcomes resulting, and doing community design exercises in which families get to design their ideal housing environment with room for hosting and outdoor kitchens and storage for things like crab pots or fishing boats (dominant local industry).

Since the 70s actually the heritage foundation and feds have made the psyop of "having kids during climate/economic/inequality problems IS selfish." This is the "left wing" justification for population control and is unfortunately very prevalent :(. The world is not overpopulated just unequal and unsustainable

They’re not bad people but there comes a point you can’t just do shit cause you can if it will negatively affect the children’s quality of life. Coming from someone who grew up in a big ass family in a poor ass house. It’s the same argument for anyone, if you can’t take care of your kids and provide them a good life, don’t have them
