my cousin actually just started a job at one and they said she could keep her nose piercings, but she had to put spacers in at work. but she can’t have her ear piercings, not even spacers 😭 just her regular lobe piercings. she had her tragus, 1st and 2nd helix, and some other cartilage piercings i don’t remember the names of

hence why i said when are we going to stray away from viewing those things as unprofessional. they don’t HAVE to be unprofessional because they don’t hinder anyone from being good at their job and maintaining a professional attitude. it’s ink and jewelry…i hardly see an issue with that. as long as they do their job, why does it matter?

It depends. In certain formal business settings, yes they are unprofessional. In others (like baristas, waiters, etc) they’re perfectly fine

When people have excessive tattoos/piercings it’s just distracting. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but when you’re working for a certain company or in a certain place, most workplaces have a dress code in order to make sure that no one is out of place and could be distracting for clients, and having those (at least not covered) is not okay. Imagine you go to court and your lawyer looks like they just fell into a pit of ink and needles… you wouldn’t want that representing you lmfao.

Nope! Actually not how that works- appearance is considered the unchangeable qualities you are born with (ie. face shape, nose size, etc.), not tattoos or piercings which is controllable! ☺️

just bc they’re not a legally protected class, doesn’t mean it’s not a form of discrimination…for example, ageism in the workplace is illegal when the individual being discriminated against is 40 and up. those laws don’t protect young people from discrimination in the workplace (except in michigan). so does that make it okay? food for thought

It’s happening, slowly but surely! I work at an engineering firm and have purple hair, most of my coworkers have a decent amount of tattoos, and there’s many many nose piercings. No gauges or other facial piercings that I’m aware of, but I don’t think there’d be much problem w it
