I don’t find it weird when parents kiss their kids on the lips I think it’s super normal and I never found it strange when my parents did that— please stop villainizing innocent families bc of your corrupted minds… 😒

to be honest my mom wanted to do that but i was always uncomfortable with it. just because it’s innocent doesn’t mean every person involved is necessarily okay with it. i never wanted anyone to kiss me on the lips until it was my choice and it always felt wrong when i was expected to do otherwise

my wokest opinion regarding this is that there is no reason to be grossed out by it (beyond a personal preference level) that isn’t fueled by racism/xenophobia, purity culture, or misogyny

I was also kissed on the mouth by my parents growing up, grandparents too. While I know they harbored no ill intention, and I don’t really care that much, we are the outlier and it is a weird upbringing. Hypothetically if I have kids, I don’t think I would do this. When people ask me who my first kiss is, I say probably my mom.

my dad kissed me on the lips growing up and he quit when i was reaching puberty. i never found it weird i never even realized that other people didn’t do that until i got to high school. my dad was also very european so i also think it’s also a cultural thing in some cases

The people upset about lip kisses obviously never got to do an obnoxious peck on the lips with their parent while going “MMM-WAH”

i really don’t think it’s crazy that people view kissing on the lips as purely romantic/sexual and get weirded out when they see parents kissing their kids like that. like 9/10 times im sure it’s innocent but i still think it’s weird

I don’t get the appeal of it but I won’t judge. What makes you want to kiss your parents on the lips though and vice versa?

why would you be weirded out by another family’s culture of affection? outside of the reasons she listed.

different cultures view kissing differently, and yes it’s crazy for people to see kissing on the lips as purely romantic/sexual for *everyone else* (not just themselves). why are you applying your own culture to it when you’re not a part of it?

you asked so you’re getting an answer lol but i was groomed by my father and one way he did that was by saying it was totally fine for him to kiss me on the mouth bc we’re family and there’s nothing weird about kissing family. again im sure 9/10 times there really IS nothing weird about it but my life would have been made a thousand times better if even one person had said something

you’re disgusting btw. you can easily differentiate how hugging your friends, your kids, and your partner all express different kinds of love, but this is suddenly different? kissing isn’t inherently romantic/sexual. you just see it that way.

I’m sorry the adults around you failed you, that’s awful :/ it makes sense to see that and be reminded of your own trauma. that’s pretty much the only valid reason to be weirded out 💀

honestly this is my problem with convos like this. i’m not saying kissing your kid on the mouth makes you more likely to groom them or whatever but it’s definitely a red flag in a lot of situations and it’s never taken seriously enough to actually help the kid being abused

I upvoted you, queen ❤️ being weirded out is def different from thinking smth is weird, and given your experience it makes complete sense you have an emotional reaction to it when you see it. there’s torture victims who experience extreme distress just from seeing black shoes, and it seems like a similar thing for you

I’m sorry to hear about what your father did, he’s a horrible person. I am not going to defend his ill behavior in any way. U have every right to feel weird about it after such trauma. 💗🫂

Yeah we always kept it very lighthearted and silly, I’ll have to ask my parents if they did that so it wouldn’t freak people out

Yeah my dad did too as a kid (like ages 1-5) but it was always a bit uncomfy bc of his breath and alcohol and he wasn’t rlly european. I didn’t realize til I was a little older that kisses could be off-lips too. Personal preferences ig too?

Oh , my parents kept their kisses away from me whenever they were sick or had anything like a cold sore so I didn’t think abt that. I feel like it’s common sense to not pass it onto anyone esp ur kid— but I forgot some parents don’t understand or might be ignorant 💔💔

It’s not weird, different cultures express platonic affection in different ways. It’s only weird if u make it weird, which u are rn. It’s a different story if it’s forced, bc thats wrong obviously.

my mom kisses her friends on the cheeks as a greeting, do u think that’s weird? No. It’s not weird. It’s platonic and it’s normal in our culture.
