As someone in medicine, I don't think the answer should be "only women can learn about/treat conditions that primarily affect women" — that further pushes the narrative that men don't have to relate to/empathize with women. Better care starts with changing the culture, not putting the entire burden of care on already overworked women doctors.
I think gynos regardless of gender should just actually care about their patients and listen to women and their pain instead of being misogynistic and judgmental. I also believe they should be doing more active research and allow more options for pain management. The same way tattoo artists should listen to their client’s opinions on tattoos and listen to their clients and speak about pain management. Women can be misogynistic to women and also aid in the suffering of women.
I think believing that every woman doctor is wonder woman of the medical field actually dismisses every experience a woman has had when dismissed by a female doctor. It also continues to instill that men shouldn’t be involved in women’s healthcare because it’s inappropriate for them to be there. Although it’s not being explicitly said it’s still sewing that impression in people’s heads
No one attack me this is just a personal problem but I just can’t go to a doctor for female issues if they don’t have the capacity to experience it. I’ve had A LOT of feminine issues I see my gyno so often she knows my partners mom lmao and I need a doctor who I see that much to know to am extent what I may be experiencing.
For example, a man will never know what an IUD insertion feels like and that may not make him a worse doctor but my doctor walked me through the whole procedure from the perspective of someone who has had multiple put in herself and that eased my anxiety so much a man couldn’t have done that.
i just don’t think a urologist is the best comparison for your claim since they’re not only catered to men/the male reproductive system. gynecology based off of the female anatomy, urology is more broad because it also covers things women also have/can have. imo an andrologist would be a better comparison because it’s directed towards men’s health in the same way gynecologists are for women
