The literacy crisis is actually so concerning I work with middle schoolers and they cannot read well. And it’s not even words that they’ve never come across before they are simple sound out words and these kids are failing

it was prob covid. them middle schoolers were learning to read during a very difficult learning period

No literally!! I was talking to my mom about how middle schoolers are essentially the first iPad kids growing up and it’s showing because deadass one of the kids asked me how to read “because” but also the middle school doesn’t require kids to carry a reading book around and idk if that was just my school but we had required reading time before each class

Yep 6th graders were most likely in kindergarten so that also definitely messed them up
