Yeah, mostly the brain compartmentalizing and storing information. You don’t get to choose what you dream about. That lack of agency makes it impossible for it to be cheating

Thinking definitely isn’t cheating in a healthy relationship. Also, things don’t have to be consciously thought about to appear in dreams. I often have dreams that are near nonsense completely unrelated to what’s happening in my life. You really can’t extrapolate OP’s whole inner life from one yik yak post about a dream
