Some of them are very misogynistic and no you should never assume they’re not just because you’re gay but there are amazing gay men just the same. No one group should get a huge pass everybody is different

fully an ally, however i don’t believe gay men should be allowed in women’s only spaces (such as our bathrooms) just because you are gay. you are a man at the end of the day and whether you are gay or not you do not belong in womens spaces.

they should’ve phrased it better. it’s polarizing misspeach like this which makes the internet more vitriolic and bigoted but I do agree we shouldn’t profile and assume one’s virtues but also the same regarding their faults.

CRAZY generalization… if you want to talk about normalized misogyny in gay male spaces please do so but the idea that gay men are inherently our enemies is not just poorly thought out, it’s dangerous

Helping sow the seeds of division between marginalized groups of people actually isn't helpful rn. Intersectionality and all that. More importantly peddling sweeping attitudes about another group due to the actions of individuals, a minority of that group mind you, is unhelpful generally. Allies we must be

Actually not even whatever. It’s a point that should be made on this post. You’re literally giving the same energy as “every woman who enjoys any queer romance is fetishizing gay men” discourse. Like yeah it’s an issue but you don’t need to essentialize based on a couple of rage bait posts from people you don’t even really know are gay. You saying that shit isn’t gonna make anything better. Also, 90% of gay men help perpetuate misogyny isn't an argument. You're helping perpetuate homophobia, I don't then throw away the allyship between marginalized communities because some individual is being unhelpful, or they are helping perpetuate homophobia. It's the responsibility of everyone to not throw away allyship for the actions of individuals.

personally i think trans ppl should have their own spaces. the fact of the matter is because they’re trans they’re in their own category. did you know that in several states if you’re incarcerated, you just need to identify as another gender and they’ll place you in that facility without prior hormone therapy or gender affirming surgery. so a full on bearded man could quite possibly lie and claim to be trans just to be placed in women spaces. now guess what happens then.

upvote 17 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #17 11w

Trueee, own spaces seem like they would make the most sense Idk anything about gender identity and incarceration though. Is there not more that goes into officially declaring an identity when being imprisoned? I feel like I would’ve heard more about how this was problematic if full on men were lying just to rape women

upvote 6 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 11w

well rape is a thing that happens regardless in both prisons regardless of the sex and i doubt you’d hear about it for a variety of reasons just like how it’s not common to hear about the nonsexual systemic abuse and mistreatment that goes on in prisons. for one, they’re locked up with guards that can make their lives hell, two formal complaints within the system are often rejected, three prisons are typically built in rural areas to separate inmates from society

upvote 3 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #17 11w

4 theres societal stigma that inmates deserve to be treated harshly and ultimately the majority doesn’t care, i’ve often heard many ppl joke about “dropping the soap” and prison rape

upvote 7 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #17 11w

also proving abuse in prison requires meeting difficult legal standards like proving deliberate indifference by the jail staff or whatever which is hard to document when you’re literally behind bars and none of the jail staff would vouch for you, and no jury would take prisoners words for truth

upvote 7 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #17 11w

atp it’s just normalized, for the sake of the innocent people in prison and those that did lesser crimes and still have to muck it with genuinely evil people, i don’t think it should be. i had to write a research paper on it a couple years back for a class and my topic was centered on how trans ppl should have their own spaces for not only their safety but others. a man could lie and get into women spaces but what about trans men who go to male prisons and get assaulted

upvote 7 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #17 11w

it defo still could happen in women prisons bc ofc there’s a much wider systemic issue, but my stance was and still is a girl wouldn’t be able to get a trans man pregnant and vice versa, which is why i supported trans spaces in my paper. sorry for the long winded response

upvote 8 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #17 11w

Nooo, I appreciated it. This is the kinda stuff I don’t really think about often but still seems interesting when people can talk about it calmly. I’ll probably look into this on my own time now The trans man example was good, but I think it gets harder when you try to figure out how trans women should be handled in prison. It seems like you run the risk of abuse no matter where you put them just due to the nature of prisons and some of the people who are imprisoned 😕

upvote 8 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 11w

it defo is tricky, even if they had their own space there’s still a risk in terms of prison facilities, but idk. it really baffles me though bc i’ve heard from some trans ppl that they don’t want their own spaces and they just want to go to the space they transitioned to bc that’s how they identify and then some of the ones i’ve spoken to said me wanting them to have their own spaces is discriminatory. but babes, you made a choice and i’m happy for you, but you can’t take that choice from others

upvote 5 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #17 11w

there are people that will feel uncomfortable, but like having your own space will minimize it and will even normalize trans identities i feel like. plus genuinely if it’s discriminatory and you feel like you’re not being treated as an “equal” because of the idea of getting your own bathroom, locker room, prison facilities etc, then men and women shouldn’t have separate bathrooms and other facilities either either. but of course no one would go for that again for obvious reasons

I feel like if anything, gay men would WANT to be in the men’s restroom no?

upvote 3 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #17 11w

most trans people use whatever bathroom they pass as since that’s what’s safest for them, I’ve never known anyone to actually go into a bathroom while not passing as that gender. it puts them at incredible risk for multiple reasons to do so

upvote 2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #17 11w

a gender-neutral bathroom would still be great for people who’re more androgynous or just need privacy. not just trans people would benefit from it; a trans-only bathroom, though, would be practically impossible to enforce or keep safe, and it might never get used in some places

upvote 2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #17 11w

and I agree that a trans/queer-only prison in ideal conditions may do good given the high amount of violence (sexual & otherwise) committed against trans people. that said, I’d never trust legislation to make that a thing since it could very well turn into another form of targeted abuse

Ugh not this trans discourse again 🫩 do you know why trans people don’t want to just be in their own space? It’s because you’re invalidating their identity and telling them “go fuck yourself faker”. And the way you talk about men pretending to be women to assault them kinda grosses me out bc you’re really playing into the all trans women are predators thing

never said that. i’m saying that the fact that there is room for a man to impersonate a trans woman solely to get into women spaces is inherently predatory and there’s really no way to fact check a persons identity. i think those creeps are dangerous not just to women but also trans women as others can twist this rhetoric negatively against them. also, inherently trans people ARE different than cis men and women. it’s not about being a faker, it’s about making sure people feel comfortable

forcing a seat at a table to validate decisions someone else made is the reason why a lot of ppl are anti trans. i’m not sure what politics and systems will have to go into place so that trans ppl and cis ppl can find a common ground and co-exist in peace, but i don’t believe saying “have at it and go into whatever space you identify as” is helpful. it can be dangerous to both parties. but that’s neither here nor they’re, ppl can do what they will but if you ask me, that’s my stance

A lot of people are anti trans because they’re cruel hateful people or they have fallen for the myth that every trans woman is a predator trying assault you. My issue with your stance is you’re just kind of saying to leave them behind and to go screw themselves and justifying ppl being anti trans. And the way you phrase being trans as just a “choice they made” and make validating their existence a chore is just kind of mean I think.
