No child left behind had done irreparable damage to society I work with middle schoolers and today I had to yell at them because it was the second day in a row they weren’t doing work that I knew they know because they thought “it was boring”

i work with high schoolers who don’t know the difference between addition/subtraction/multiplication/division, and can’t identify which symbol goes with which operation. i feel you.

as someone who student taught freshman in high school the kids today are so stupid or they just don’t gaf it was heartbreaking as someone who really wanted to be a teacher, i felt like i was babysitting them not teaching

Btw they aren’t even calling a fail failing, it’s “not there yet” which yea had its perks but that’s not gonna do much for a students motivation

And I thought the middle schoolers being unable to read well was insane, that’s truly crazy they can’t recognize the symbols

the reading/spelling is no better either. it’s god awful. i have kids that can’t spell “said” “coal” “bear” “gummy” “lied” “does” etc, don’t know the difference between two/to/too, wear/where, there/their/they’re, etc…it’s awful

It’s truly baffling how they have gotten this far like that, I had a kid today ask me how to spell because, I had another kid ask to spell mental both work btw were in the description

I’m student teaching now and it truly does feel like babysitting because their behaviors are also atrocious

I’ve struggled with and failed every maths class I’ve ever taken since the 5th grade, and even I know all of the basics for it. 🫠
