I feel like there’s undertones of unnecessary patriarchy in purity culture of any kind. Self sabotage is different but women being allowed to claim their sexuality regardless of that being tied in to their future man’s ego is strong. Also most people who sell don’t do get into it willingly. They come from really bad backgrounds and make enough money to be able to move out of that cycles. Which honestly, forget men but very few people are able to do.
Prostitution is also a very important part of the economy and legalization prevents the abuse that anyone in that industry has to endure. Not sure if you’ve heard the idea of “they say and do things to us that they would have otherwise done to their family/friends”. I think feminism is also abandoning purity culture where a man is literally marking you as his territory/object just to satisfy his ego + granting the ability to earn money to women who have it bad otherwise.
I’m not saying equality rights inspired sex work. I’m saying feminism allows women who unwillingly enter that industry to be treated like human beings and have rights regardless of how they got there. It allows them to move forward with their lives and live normally regardless of their past. The money allows them to leave that life behind so they don’t have to be degraded.
It’s not liberating because you’re allowed to fuck whoever you want. It’s liberating because you get to move on from that situation where you didn’t want to be and not be that for your entire life. It’s liberating because that alone doesn’t make up your identity. We all know about sex traffickers, but legalization adds security and eyes which allows unwilling participants to look for help without being criminalized. It’s not about just random fucking like you’re making it out to be.
You have the opportunity to build a career. What about a woman who was never in school, didn’t have supportive parents, may have endured abuse and tried everything and had to turn to that life because everything else failed. Proud of your endurance but we are not all mentally strong or have the capacity that you might or I might have.
