OCD does not get enough genuine representation, bcuz why did hearing jake shane talk about his repetitive tendencies on his podcast make me cry, like i feel seen and represented in a real way for the first time… ever??
i think another big part is that the media focuses solely on the compulsive side of OCD as opposed to the obsessive. the obsessive portion is demonized where’s the compulsive portion is seen as a mental struggle when in reality they’re both equally harsh

it’s the popularized language and buzzwords around it that make people disgustingly misunderstand what disorders actually are. modern generations are so obsessed with uniqueness only when it serves as a stepping stool for “attention” but you didn’t hear that from me 🫣
