I’m going to start looking into ketamine therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, or electroconvulsive therapy to see if I can’t be salvaged by even a little bit. 🫩

Not sure how it’s been for others, but I had bilateral ect several years ago and it totally messed up my memory. It’s gotten better over time, but it was totally devastating for maybe the first 2-3 years and my head would hurt trying to recall certain things

It really helped me with my depression though, so at least there was that😬

My memory is already not the greatest right now and it’s my biggest concern if ECT turns out to be my very last available resort. 🫠

My mom wants me to consider ketamine since I’ve kind of been slipping a little and it’s been proposed around a year or so ago, but idk how I feel about it. If I were in your situation, I’d probably look into TMS maybe.

I’m thinking of trying it first and then TMS if it seems ketamine won’t hold any sort of permanence after all of the sessions and such. Or, if insurance won’t cover it, seeing if I can’t get TMS. ECT is my last resort because of the possibility of serious memory issues. 😔 How would you say your memory is now? Was it only previous events, or do/did you struggle to encode new ones?

That seems like a good idea. In my experience, it’s been about five years or so (if I remember correctly when I got it done). My memory used to be really good with remembering dates and everything, but after I finished my sessions, I could not remember mainly events around the time period of when I got ect. That was the major point of when I’d get headaches. It was also a little rough remembering the past as well, and I had a lot of difficulty with new memories being clear.

I wasn’t able to tell my dreams from reality most of the time, and my mom nicknamed me “Swiss cheese”💀 only after 3 years did I notice things got better, but it was still difficult. Currently, things aren’t that bad, but still not the way they used to be by far. I write nearly everything down so I don’t forget
