it’s even worse to me because at least straight men will treat us with a sliver of respect if they’re attracted to us, and we can use that to our leverage. we can’t leverage anything with gay men because they could go their whole life without needing women for anything. at least with straight men they need us if they want a gf, wife, or kids.
yes AND this goes both ways a lot of the time. Lots of gay men can be still be shitty and misogynistic, and a lot of straight women will assume that being a woman means they know what it’s like to be queer and use gay men or queer women as accessories or token queer friends but get mad when its not just a quirky personality trait but a serious and politicized identity that puts you at real risk.
You’ve probably seen that white guy on tik tok then. Well I think he’s white?? But he’s gay obviously and has like huge lips. He’s pretty popular. I’m gonna find his name but whenever I see him or that Landon guy, it just feels like cosplay or mockery. The AAVE and mannerisms feel like costumes, it’s so icky
so just in general as a queer woman i am very wary of gay men AND of straight women especially when they wanna talk about the other one in a way that has little to no nuance. I think it’s very concerning how quickly these discussions can get filled with lowkey homophobic or queerphobic sentiments in places like girl talk which is kind of a notoriously cishet girl dominated space.
