No they aren’t. If you are working in business or computer science or many other areas you need to know how to use AI. Most major businesses have already incorporated it into their work. By not using it and becoming familiar you are handicapping yourself

there is no ethical use of AI. therefore there should be no use of AI. this is like saying people have to get used to animal testing or cancer causing pesticides. it’s easier to lie down and take it. that doesn’t mean it’s right or intelligent. millions of people are suffering from lack of clean water to drink and bathe with due to data centers. it’s creating pollution in news outlets. it’s creating a surveillance state. please get a grip.

get a different doctor. or google it with a “-ai” at the end

I hope you are also vegan, don’t use cars, don’t use phones, etc. the creation of smart phones last year caused more pollution then ai did and it wasn’t even close.

People will never stop using ai and it will continue to grow and develop just like smart phones, computers, and cars. All of these things technically can’t be used ethically by your definition

Not to mention app data bases. So I hope you never use google or safari or yikyak etc. Googles data base alone released around a quarter of what all of ai did last year.

My point is there are hundreds of things that are causing the same amount or more pollution as ai. However you have gotten use to those things so you are fine with people using them. “Get a grip 🤓” you need a grip

To compare ai to cancer causing pesticides is actually hilarious. The real comparison is other technologies that cause a bunch of pollution (which everyone uses anyways including you)

you’re right we should give up and let it take over everything. just because we’ve been forced to adapt to a society where we have to use cars and phones doesn’t mean that people WANT to. why can’t we stop while we’re ahead?? i mean ten years ago it would have been totally possible to severely limit or completely cut out generative AI use. why are we just rolling over and taking it? these corporations do NOT have our best interests in mind and we know it.

AI use is the future. There will be no way to stop it what you are saying is pointless. Just like iPhones and cars people won’t sacrifice advancement for something that is less than .5 percent of pollution

The majority of the people in the USA report using AI several times a week it will not stop. You are putting yourself behind. What you are doing is the equivalent never buying a smart phone. It’s entirely pointless

AI use is being pioneered by propaganda created by the ultra rich. there’s no way to tell if a video is real. it’s replacing actors and animators and artists and customer service representatives and telehealth health care workers. i mean you’ve got to be kidding me. not to mention they’re building data centers in poor, rural, Black neighborhoods and taking their drinking water. you’re spineless

a smart phone is essentially impossible to live without these days. we CAN live without AI use in daily life, and we should be demanding limitations on it. it’s ridiculous

Ai is changing how work is done not taking over. Just like every major invention there were jobs that were lost and jobs that were gained

upvote 1 downvote

And ai will be essentially impossible to live without in just a couple years because it will be on basically everything on the smart phone. People will also be using it at work every day

There won’t be limitations on it because we are constantly competing with other countries. If one country limits itself heavily the other could advance ai to a point where they become far more advanced

i can’t tell if you’re just being combative or if you’re genuinely ignorant. the job market is the worst it’s been in ages. most people are not making enough to put anything aside in savings. AI *IS* taking jobs and the jobs it’s not taking it IS changing so that they can pay workers less and get the same amount of work done. as someone who teaches, it’s literally making kids dumb. they don’t even write papers anymore.

your only argument is “it’s inevitable” but that’s not what i’m arguing. i’m arguing that it’s UNETHICAL to use, which it is. i’m sure we’ll have no choice but to use it. just like we’ve had no choice but to use phones and cars. we’re puppets of whatever the billionaire corporations want to use to spy on us.

I agree it’s technically unethical to use but there’s no point in not using it because it is inevitable just like iPhones and cars. Anyone who doesn’t use it is putting themselves at a disadvantage. Yeah you can live without ai now but there’s no stopping it so why not benefit yourself the most you can and learn to use it.

But I don’t see the use of ai as “brain dead” when it’s something we will need to use and understand in many job markets

bro then what are we arguing about you literally agree with me that’s it’s unethical

upvote 1 downvote

Because you are insulting people who use it when not using it isn’t the smart choice for most people. Also almost everything we consume is “technically unethical”

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> OP 1w

Basically you can’t judge people for using ai when almost every other product is the same way. For example shoes cause a shit ton of pollution because people focus on design. If everyone were to get shoes that were made out of recycled materials that would reduce pollution far more than not using ai would

you can choose to avoid Ai where possible. you don’t HAVE to have the chat gpt app and ask it questions. sometimes it’s unavoidable but where it is, you should at least try to not use it if you know it’s unethical

😭 you get my point. There are hundreds of industries causing as much or more pollution then ai. Many with children in factories or using slave labor. People are acting like ai is this absolute environment destroyer compared to everything else. It’s one thing to dislike the effects of ai it’s another to be mad at people for using it. Just like I don’t think people should get mad at non vegans or people who bought a new pair of clothes

more than one thing can be bad and unethical i don’t disagree with you that fast fashion is bad. i don’t understand why we’re even arguing. we agree that it’s unethical. you’re saying we should just give up. i’m saying we shouldn’t.

i can dislike ai for more than one reason. “bias” it’s called a fucking opinion?? but ok here you go: AI is making people stupid and lazy, being used to increase surveillance of citizens by the government and corporations, causing psychosis, AND on top of all of that, destroying the environment. it’s bad enough that you can no longer tell what videos are real or ai. it’s bad that it’s being used to create CP. is that enough reasons for you?? so far all youve said is “it’s easier to give up”

It’s not giving up idk why that’s in quotations marks I never said that 😭. Not using a tool that is guaranteed to be used by billions of other people is just handicapping yourself. You insult people who use ai but anyone who doesn’t is worse off. Imagine if the us decided to ban ai and never use it. What would happen? Other countries would eventually surpass us in technology easily. It’s the same way with individual people in certain fields.

You could say the same thing about almost every major technological advancement. Phones for example match basically all of these categories and do far worse. Yet not using a phone puts you at a disadvantage. Ai will be the same way so anyone not using it is stupid. It’s not giving up it’s being realistic and using your tools to your advantage.
