First of all, congratulations! You will gain a little bit more confidence each time you drive even if you stay close to home! Secondly I wanted to say that 20 isn’t as late as it feels! people can be reckless, fast, impaired, INPATIENT, weather dependently nervous, directionally lost, etc. you definitely did yourself a favor by waiting until you felt really ready. I didn’t take drivers ed at 15, I waited until I felt ready instead because of teenage pressure

I got mine at 20, I was sick in high school and wasn’t even able to get my permit until 19. I know there is a societal “normal” and it’s hard to differ from it. But everyone is on a different path and you’re doing great

You can drive on benzos once you know how they affect you. Trust me get a Telehealth psych

Yeah I would highly recommend against being on a sedative while operating heavy machinery, also getting a controlled substance from an online doctor

I am on stimulants and get my vitals and blood checked very frequently. It really is a battle getting them but they can also ruin your life so i guess it depends on what you need

.5mg is not enough to impair you you can absolutely legally and normally drive on them. I have been battling mental health for a decade and after a dozen antidepressants i finally found a way to get better help. Its different for everyone

I’m on lexapro it was genuinely just the test that got to me. I’ve driven on my own and I’m fine with that I just have testing anxiety unfortunately ☹️

Thank you so much I feel like it’s such a big thing especially when everyone tries putting you down for it but there are so many reasons that people take a bit longer (mine was a combination of poverty and anxiety) and there’s so much more that people go through!!

where did you get this idea, unless you're on a crazy small dose or have crazy tolerance this is like not true

.5mg of WHAT? for what size person? at what frequency? if you take benzos as a rescue med (which is the most common and recommended way to use them) you should absolutely NOT be driving on them. period.

and if you're taking benzos every day, godspeed to you but that is not something i would recommend to other people because benzos are potentially addictive, and once you are physically dependent, trying to stop them can cause severe and occasionally fatal withdrawals.

Honestly girl one of the reasons I took so long to get mine was because I didn’t have anyone to bring me practicing like most of my friends don’t have theirs either (my boyfriend still doesn’t have a permit either) really don’t feel bad about it!! For me it was mostly the pressure and lowkey bullying from other people about not having it but I think it’s just important to not let what other people think get to you. You will get it on your own time and that’s the biggest favor you can do yourself

Thank you!! I feel comfortable driving already (I haven’t braved the highways much) but luckily my anxiety was just about the test. Honestly I’ve been driving on my own without it (I didn’t have people to bring me practicing) which I wouldn’t recommend but I am super lucky that the anxiety doesn’t get to me on the road. Thank you so much this makes me feel so much better.

Also I did take drivers ed in high school and it was such a horrible experience for me. I was going through a breakup that started a lot of really unhealthy eating habits, my driving instructor brought up 2 of my dead relatives, and was overall really mean and made my anxiety worse. I think doing drivers ed was honestly what made me take a bit longer to get mine. I’m really glad I waited until now to do it, puke and all haha

I was really lucky to get such a nice person! I know some people would be a lot less understanding of anxiety. Honestly im proud of both of us!!

THANK YOU!! It’s so nice to know that there are people out there that understand. I knew I could do everything but I was still so nervous. I’m so glad I did it. I honestly think my anxiety overshadowed any embarrassment I should have felt from puking so that’s a win LOL
