radicalism is kinda funny. you learn to be a sjw until you realize its not black and white. while its very VERY important(step 1) not to make light of the history of marginalized groups, its also important to remember that bias is impossible to eliminate from the brain. we must create a culture that is loving, inclusive, and respectful(including the rascists), so we can foster a community of people who at least understand that respect comes before hatred. from there, healing can begin to happen
racism is racism it doesn’t matter where it’s happening but to stay on the topic of this post “anyone can be racist” in response to OP specifically calling out white people is all lives matter in another font. if you were anti racist period you wouldn’t feel the need to deflect. knowing the history and power imbalances that are still prevalent today what’s so uncomfortable about the topic
It’s really frustrating, and this is not a dig at you! I think it’s great you have the patience to educate ppl it’s just unfortunate that people get so defensive instead of trying to understand where black or other marginalized groups are coming from when they share their experiences
The textbook definition of racism is hard to argue because systematic racism and racial discrimination are very different things. Racism takes account for history and where power has been and still is. As white person you can feel racial discrimination but it’s not the same as racism because society still favors you even if it’s hard to recognize. Like yes minorities can still be hateful toward you because you’re white however that’s not racism because racial discrimination is a result of racism
Well since you clearly didn’t read what I wrote I do recommend you study anti-racism and how privilege and power play into the society we live in. I thought the same thing about Racism being the same full circle once too. It changes your perspective on things learning the same thing has different meanings depending of who and where it’s coming from.
i agree with what youre saying. however, my argument is that if we fostered this kind of culture, racists would be more receptive to the idea “love>hate”. this isnt delusion, its just the truth. if you treat criminals like criminals, theyre gonna act like a criminal. this doesnt mean NOT holding people accountable, it just means SHIFTING the conversation to a more positive light. otherwise we end up in a feedback loop of disdain and resentment where we cant hear each other over ourselves
which isnt to say theres anything to hear out from racists, being racist is childish. psychology shows us that if we alienate our children when they have a line of thinking we disagree with, rather than foster the space for the child to express AND also receive opinion; the child is going to feel alone, and will find others who agree with them to reinforce their perspectives. its just the brain
