Yeah it’s so interesting because you can find artists who are actually good people and 10x more talented than the people mainstream. Morgan Wallen not only a dick but his music fucking sucks. I’m not a fan of country but I’m a fan of talent and even I can point into the direction of better country artists

That line about “let’s channel some of this energy into actually fighting racism and antisemitism” is a pretty canned line atp. That’s a false binary. People already can - and do - both withdraw support from harmful public figures and engage in more direct activism. We can walk and chew gum at the same time. Also, dismissing it as not “actually” doing anything is dismissing one of the oldest and most legit tools of American resistance.

Also…sometimes when people baselessly assume that others only try to help out of having petty or performative motives (“virtue signaling”), it’s projection of the fact that it’s the only reasons *they’d* do it. 👀 Maybe you’re the one signaling. You appeal to “real” anti-bigotry action…but conveniently don’t define what that looks like. Without that, it looks like you’re the one engaging in vague, meaningless moral posturing - not us.

Consuming art created by problematic people… IS problematic, regardless if they’re gaining revenue from it or not. It shows YOUR PERSONAL disregard for THEIR harmful behaviors. You can’t argue that. It’s not even like you’re consuming their content for educational purposes. It’s strictly for pleasure. Their negative behaviors are not a dealbreaker to you… and that’s okay in YOUR mind. So enjoy that all album all you want. It doesn’t change what that person did and the people it harmed.
