when you think about it, christianity’s TRUE values align with the social aspects of democratic politics. i don’t think what you’re looking for is unrealistic, just might be hard to find bc unfortunately too many “christians” (/“catholics”) don’t actually care about jesus’ values

I think your friend is referring to the fact that most denominations of Christianity including Catholics have a conservative/MAGA stance, especially where I am in the Deep South.

Not if you’re looking for a democrat. Lots of Catholics are democrat. An actual leftist? Would be a lot harder. But some ppl subscribe to liberation theology, I’d look into that
