i’m seeing this time and time and again, especially with the stupid mouth tape trend for putting on certain stickers on your belly to lose weight. do a simple google search on a trusted medical journal individual will find these things have been scarcely studied and the risks outweigh the supposed benefits
it is one thing to not trust that the health industry probably does a lot just to keep us sick and make money from us, but if you do your research correctly, science is science at the end of the day. The influencer with 2 million followers telling you to do a “body detox” or chew gummies to make ur vagina smell like strawberries has no medical degree and therefore no idea what they’re saying
Ok I also have to add to this: just because you’re reading an article that “cites” certain journals - that DOES NOT automatically mean that the article is accurately describing what is actually published in that paper!!! I got into an argument with someone that used a magazine link as their source, which was laughable enough ofc, but the article linked a medical journal that I decided to read.. lo and behold, the magazine article CHERRY PICKED ONE SINGULAR LINE FROM ALL 300 pages of research and
- completely misconstrued the idea behind the research. I went thru ALLLLLL of that journal to try to see if the point from the magazine was ever mentioned again, and it wasn’t!!! And from the one paragraph that that one line was in, the summary of it was essentially that there wasn’t enough research to actually provide true evidence to prove that statement true, which again the magazine article made it seem like there’s was research about THAT particular point and there simply wasn’t!
It is just SO SO SO SO IMPORTANT to actually do your own reading rather than automatically assuming that someone citing some journal is right because they linked it and told you what they got from it. They may also be cherry picking!!! They may not have even read the article themselves and assume that the synopsis/summary on the cover page of it is enough to prove themselves right. THERE IS SO MUCH NUANCE EVEN IN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH SOMETIMES!
And furthermore academia is corrupt and will literally blacklist people with genuine research from ever being able to publish or ever allowing their material to be read…. Which a lot of people aren’t ready to discuss… but I feel like it’s relevant to a deeper discussion about this so I’ll put it out there to keep in mind anyway
