i just got called republican for saying sex work shouldnt be encouraged.. but a few successful cases doesnt change that the majority of women who enter these things are in poverty, started very young, or are being forced/ under some sort of external pressure to do so. and i worry that being pro sex work is casting a blind eye to the realities of many women. not to mention the effects porn addiction has on the brain & relationships

Maybe I'm crazy but I think the best answer and have a society where ppl don't need to do anything to have the resources needed for shelter, clothing, and food/water. From there ppl should work for whatever they want. There are definitely ppl that prefer and enjoy the life that they can get from that industry which we shouldn't take away, but we need to take away the reasons that most ppl consider when they turn to sex work.

i think a lot of people misunderstand advocacy for sex work protection and legality as support for the industry. there will always be sex work, and regardless of how one feels about that, we need to do what we can to protect sex workers so they CAN leave the industry and advocate for themselves without fearing for their lives

genuine question... shouldnt we be encouraging women to get degrees so that their means of surviving isnt based off of their availability and desirability to men? (im not arguing that we should criminalize it. im just asking why we as feminists are apparently supposed to be pro sex work. sure women can do what they want, but why should i ever encourage women to depend on men)

agreed! freedom of choice is important. i also dont think it should be criminalized. but i disagree with any sort of glamorization or encouragement to enter sex work.

Yeah we gotta separate the cultural and economic pressures and then if people still want to do it, then it’s chill, but right now it’s so culturally and economically fucked that the best we can do is regulate it legally for protection
