like think about it; ur making 21/hr but your hours aren't fixed so you dont know when or how ling you'll be working until your boss feels like dropping the schedule. but that aside, lets say you are working a full 40hr work week for a month, lets say thats 4 weeks of work so 160hrs at 21/hr is like 3,360 PRE-taxes. lets say taxes will be like $700 to be nice, now u have 2,660 for the month. rent in general nowadays is like 1,200 for a studio lets say, and obv u need groceries and shit ...
and that's like 100 for one person nowadays so lets say you're spending $150 (incase u wanna get somethting for urself. But wait! what about utilities? lets say water, garbage and electricity is all like 200 for the month (being nice). and now ur at 1,110 and thats without considering having to pay off a credit card, student loans, car loan, gas for ur car, etc
sure but will they ever be able to afford a house? a family? one emergency and they could lose everything. living paycheck to paycheck isn’t sustainable. you quite literally NEED savings to fall back on. i’m confused why you’re upset. what do you lose from your fellow person being paid more??
Just checking before I proceed. It’s interesting that you don’t know the jargon but think you’re informed enough to make hot takes. What they’re currently doing is getting a fair CBA. A strike or lockout makes both sides weigh the demands against their profits or wages. If the union’s demands are unreasonable, Starbucks will either negotiate them down or the union will give up and end the strike. Same on the other side. This is why unions work.
