Doing some research on the Salem Witch Trials (tw) and learned: 200 people were tried, 30 convicted, 20 executed. 13 women, 7 men. 19 hanged, 1 guy crushed to death. Currently we have a 68% felony conviction rate, Salem was 15%.

Honestly I didn’t realize the conviction rates for the Salem witch trials was so low but fun fact: One of the women acquitted married into my family

Queen But yea, “a bunch of crazy fanatics were pulling women out of their homes and burning them” is more memorable than “a bunch of people got accused, most got acquitted, and the ones who got convicted were hanged, the standard humane method of execution for the time.”

That’s fair. There were a ton of court cases in Salem which is why it’s so famous, but many more barbaric examples existed in other towns that didn’t have good court cases. The people that got convicted and killed were typically the ones who didn’t have men or many other people able to defend them. I think the worst one was a town in Germany with over 200 people killed
