honestly if he's actively smoking in there everytime he's over then there's literally nothing u can do to get rid of the smell. maybe try getting real stern w ur roommate about it. or go to the office again and keep complaining especially if it's in ur lease that ur not suppose to smoke

I’m more concerned with how he’s not setting off the smoke detectors.

I hate to be a snitch, but if weed is illegal in your state, I call the police. It’s stupid and petty and may not be a crime, but it’s worth a shot. Idk our apartment is real strict about smoking especially weed and other drugs. They’ll call the police on you if they catch you with it. Other than that if your leasing office doesn’t care I’ll ask for room change. Tell them the smoke is causing flare ups.

my main concern is not just the smoke smell in general..she has kittens. so hes in there w two small cats smoking cigs and weed with the windows closed like?? idk its just all around very inconsiderate and dirty behavior especially when he could literally just go sit outside on the balcony. ugh.

Ok so tampering with a smoke detector is at bare minimum a code violation which means you can get the fire marshal involved. That should also kick the landlord’s ass into gear because a visit from the fire marshal over something there is documented proof of him knowing about is no bueno.

it was 2 ny strips thick cut. i let them sit on the counter in the packaging for like 30 min to get it close to room temp, pat them dry, and then i used minders salt pepper and garlic blend on all sides. i use ceramic pans so a lil oil, start by searing the fat caps, then like 4-5 min each side (i like medium well sorry) baste a lil w the juices then left to rest while i did the gravy.

I get that a lot of people don’t want to get others in trouble over stuff they perceive as minor, but there’s a lot at risk here. Those kittens’ health, your health, and your safety if a fire starts in her room without a functioning smoke detector is all at risk because her boyfriend is too lazy to use the damn balcony so this isn’t a minor thing and he needs some consequences for this.

thats what i mean tho, i talked to her and she dgaf. i told the office and they were just like ā€œtheres nothing we can doā€. and its not like hes actually committing a crime so i cant call the police :/ theres genuinely nothing i can do from here

yup. its there plain as day. no guests more than 2 days a wk, and not more than 4 days a month. as well as no smoking of anything indoors. they just dont wanna enforce it for wtv reason

yup. im trying, they just genuinely dont care for some reason. and its not like its otherwise illegal so i couldn’t even get the city or a lawyer involved to force them to honor their own contract.

it seems to fade after a while with the air cycling and the fans running but it stays for a good couple hrs while/after hes smoking and its so irritating

Well it is a code violation so you can call the city and/or the fire marshal. The landlord will have do something if code enforcement shows up (something tells me your unit isn’t the only one with those kind of violations) or they get fined for allowing it to happen.

maybe but here they give 30 days to fix it. and ive had to call them before and they waited until 2 days before the deadline. so they could come to fix it and make sure its right…and then they can literally just twist off the detector and take the battery out again. its like the old school ones where u can literally twist it on and off to open it, theres no way to make sure they keep it functioning. trust, i’ve thought of everythingggg

It is but if they came to investigate my situation theyd have hundreds of people to lock up in the complex, and the office couldn’t only do my roommate and not evb else bc its a fair housing violation if they dont enforce the rules for everyone. I honestly wouldnt mind if it was weed. Like i dont smoke anymore but idrc. Cig smoke and weed smoke are v different imo.

But yeah ima try the remedies sb else recommended for the smell, and call the office again, and talk ti my roommate again and if it continues, i’ll demand a transfer. I was just hesitant to do that bc this bldg also has a bug problem. Ive spent a lot of time money and energy to get rid of them in our unit the last 5 months. so id hate to move and then have to start that process over again🫪 but thats where im heading if she doesnt get him to just…go outdoors 😭

I don’t know where I got weed from. I thought I saw weed. And that’s crappy; they should be able to move you. Especially if it’s a health issue; cigarettes have a nasty smell. They get in your clothes and on your stuff. That’s disgusting. I’d rather smell like weed than cigarettes.

Definitely ask to be moved because he clearly doesn’t respect your space nor does she. That’s a nasty combination. I can only imagine the smell. Def don’t speak to her anymore about it because she can retaliate and say that you’re harassing her and her bf.

Then try looking into your tenet’s rights cause this might be grounds enough to break the lease due to unsafe living conditions/violation of the lease on the landlord’s end. I don’t know if you’re in a position to move but I think the only way out of this is finding a new roommate and landlord that gives a shit about safety. As for the current building, there might still be a way to get them fined through a surprise inspection as again, there’s no way your unit isn’t the only one with issues.

ur right. its just hard to manage sometimes working 2 jobs and school so. ill see what i can manage but i agree smthn has to be done bc i genuinely cant. and i mean when im at my lowest and stressed im known to smoke a cig or two. but i do it outside, change my clothes when i get inside and wash my hands so the smoke smell doesnt carry lol. literally all he has to do is WALK OUTSIDE. idk. but yall are encouraging me to scheme and stand up for myself and the animals bc this is crazy
