How did he do it? My dad gets drunk every single night and doesn’t seem to think he’s even doing anything wrong …

He doesn’t even remember anything the next morning usually

If it’s every single night, he will likely need to have medical supervision with withdrawal medications. Or else he risks death…

He got pancreatitis and it really sunk in that it was killing him and my baby brother had just been born and my little sister was only 4 he realized he needed to be here for us

The problem is that I can’t even get him to realize that there’s a problem

I think it’s such an insane habitual thing for him atp that it’s his normal

this might sound odd but maybe you could try to convince him to go to a community blood testing thing? many clinics do them once a month with walk ins. you could say you wanted somebody to do it with and for both of you to check up on your health without mentioning the alcohol… maybe that could help show him with results? But all in all, if you and your family has tried intervening and he won’t do anything, sometimes people just won’t let themselves be helped until they consciously know they

I’m sorry unfortunately the first step is admitting you have an addiction and you can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped. You have to keep reminding him that it’s poison and that he’s hurting himself and that you love him and want him around

I’ve been doing that since I was a kid even and it just starts huge arguments that I don’t need to tell him what to do and that he’s fine :( Little me going out to dinner would be like please don’t get another beer all the time and it started hell. he doesn’t take me seriously at all. Seriously I hate that man so much and love him at the same time.

You’re okay girl I hope that your dad is able to realize his addiction and get help. You deserve to have a father who is there for you not alcohol

You do realize alcoholism is a disease. Help but don’t pass judgment.

I don’t think she’s passing judgement. As the daughter of an addict (meth) yes addiction is a disease but it also gets to a point where they need to hold themself accountable and practice discipline, not cheap thrills. Addicts/alcoholics forever chase their first “high” and will do ANYTHING and cut ties with ANYONE who gets in their way. I wouldn’t say shes judging but moreso mourning the fact that her dad is literally killing himself and refuses to listen to anyone

Fr share the tips because my dad used to go to AA and suddenly stopped. Now he’s back to being an alcoholic in denial 🍻

I’m so sorry, girl. In Al-Anon/, they teach us the three Cs: You didn’t cause it (their addiction), you can’t cure it, and you can’t control it. They need to have a realization that they’re ruining their lives and WANT to quit.

you can’t really help but the other girl’s comment about the three C’s was super helpful! my dad lost his wife, house, family, and almost business. the thing that finally made him quit was a DUI. this was like 3 weeks ago. none of the other things were his rock bottom but a DUI was 😐
