darkside.

The hatred of romance books with any sex scenes in the reading community is fueled by misogyny istg

this is true but also there’s very valid concerns with how many times those books push very stereotypical and patriarchal standards. there should be space for those convos

Sure, but saying any woman who reads books with any form of eroticism are porn addicts is super weird

saying that women whose entire media diet is written pornography are fundamentally better than men is also wrong

u can have books with sex in it that aren’t 5000 year old vampire man choking out a freshly 19 year old girl

it’s just this implication booktokers have where it’s like being a female gooner is apparently less bad for you than being a male gooner 😭😭if the only stuff u read/watch is to get off on you are still fundamentally a gooner

Again when was this relevant. I’m talking about how books that feature sex in them that are geared towards women are seen as exclusively written pornography, but books with sex in them that are geared towards men aren’t.

Om just confused on why you’re making this point on a post about misogyny in the book community?

because people will be like “you hate dark romanve because you’re a misogynist” i hate the popular genre of dark romance because IT IS misogynistic

like yes there’s misogyny but also ppl use it to deflect criticism of things they like

dark romance is def misogynistic HOWEVER there is a world of difference between written erotica/porn/etc and real life porn (idk if there’s a better word for it lol). like yes dark romance reinforces a lot of harmful views towards women but no actual real life women are being harmed. the same cannot be said for porn!

I will say that calling an entire genre misogynistic is wrong, like there are some extremely well written “dark romances” that aren’t misogynistic at all. Dark romance just means a romance with dark themes.

truth bomb (although I do think the normalization of adult media where women are harmed is concerning, because people are seeing that as a norm for sex now!)

yes and 9/10 times those ‘dark themes’ involve harming women. and 9/10 times that harm is sexualized. so im very comfortable calling it what it is lol

YUPPPPP but i will say the lions share for normalization is always always always going on physical porn. i’d argue written erotica is just a response to that as well

yes like im not a kink shamer but people are getting exposed to what’s basically bdsm without knowing what it is and also the fact it’s CONSENSUAL AND ALSO SAFE and just see it as abuse but somehow sexy🫩🫩🫩
