I mostly get it from christians, too, but it’s been from most mainstream religious believers that I get the “but my beliefs say…” at one point or another. Had two muslims today get on me about “being haram” which is not the norm but why it’s at the forefront of my thoughts today.

If you read the actual religion though it isn’t allowed. Like my parents are Sikh and they force the religion on me even though it’s not allowed and I have a ton of Hindu friends who are forced by their parents as well

I wouldn’t say it’s just a religion thing. U can see a force of ideas in politics too. I think it’s a lot of humans nature to force your belief on others. Like how could it be the religions fault if most religions clearly say not to do it

Not necessarily for example the whole religion of Sikhism was created to fight forceful conversion yet people still force their children to follow Sikhism

It is very isolating here within the Muslim community I agree, but it’s definitely worse if you live in a more Islamist fundamentalist country. Same where Muslims are minorities it’s worse for them in global south countries than here.

Idk I don’t have an experience with a Muslim family but I went from Sikh to Atheist to Muslim so without cultural aspects attached I don’t think the religion in itself is bad. I did experience a controlling Sikh family though but reading the texts and history of Sikhism it isn’t teaching any of the stuff that I experienced

People have different lived realities, and they are all valid. Depending on which country you grow up in—considering the existing power dynamics there, as well as interpersonal relationships within your family—you might sometimes not want to follow the religion you were born into. Ultimately, the religion you choose to follow should be only your decision, not anyone else's.
