is this a safe space to say you have to force yourself to push past mental health issues when they begin affecting others health and you cant use them as an excuse at that point? like i have sympathy for hoarders but you CANT have a kid in that environmen

i mean yeah you can say that but it’s a mental illness. clearly rationality has gone out the window for those people, that’s why they’re in the situation they’re in. it’s a lot easier said than done

being a parent means doing things that are crazy difficult. if you yourself cant fix the problem you have to get the child out of it somehow

obviously, but again if someone is in the throes of an illness they may not get there. that’s where the importance of community comes in, because having people around who can tell when a real issue is going on and try to help both the parents and child can make a huge difference. it sucks for everyone involved and when you consider how most people aren’t equipped to be parents OR handle their mental health, you realize why situations like this happen.
