I’m tired of seeing “autism moms” who go online and talk about how hard it is to raise their child and it’s obvious she never taught them basic manners and rules. I may not know the whole situation, but I know your verbal kid shouldn’t be shouting swears

“Autism moms” are honestly one of the biggest barriers to Autism acceptance, independence, and support.

And this is coming from an autistic woman, autistic kids are capable of understanding basic manners and politeness when taught properly. It’s not all moms but I can’t stand it when I see a video of a mom allowing their seven year old to verbal abuse her and his siblings then acts like she’s a struggling parent of an autistic child.

my mom isn’t one to go online about it, but i can vouch for this as my brother is a 29yr old man child. he is VERY high functioning, can talk clearly, cook, is about to get his FIRST license (because they’ve let so many permits expire w/o taking him) and they aren’t trying to get him a job, help him figure out credit, NONE OF IT. i’m terrified that once they pass away in the future, my sister or i will have to take him in and baby him as well. it’s frustrating on all ends of the situation

That’s the worst part about these kinds of moms. What they’re doing is not setting their kids up for life without them and are just relying on family to feel pressured enough to continue the cycle.
