
It honestly just feels like such a moral failing and it feels like I should be able to just cut it out and I guess I could for a week to prove something but it wasn’t as easy as it should have been and the second the week ended I blacked out. I feel like shit and it makes me want to drink more to avoid it
The best I can say is that it’s not a moral failing. Addiction is a bitch, but it’s not a failure. It’s a health condition. You’re struggling, yes, but you’re not powerless or broken. Admitting you need help, seeking out support, and holding yourself accountable can do a lot of the work. Think of the pros and cons, what you can gain in sobriety. You’ve made a week, you are absolutely capable of more. Start with making (reasonable) goals, timelines, announce them to others.
