Advice? I have been gaining weight ever since I was put on birth control. Since I was young everyone always commented on how small I was, but I am 3 lbs from being considered overweight and I am struggling mentally with that fact. I don’t know what to d.

how are you determining you’re 3 lbs away from being overweight? is it through bmi?

How long have u been on it? I bloated and held a lot of water weight for the first 6/7 months then it went away for me

Yeah it is. I know bmi isn’t exactly accurate but it showed up on my drs notes so it has me anxious

Unfortunately it’s been about a year and a half. I was hoping it was going away but my weight has been steadily climbing.

if it makes you feel better, bmi was created by a eugenicist who based it off of white men’s bodies. so it’s not accurate at all, but especially not for women and poc. “overweight” is gonna be different for every person and it’s about health more than anything. if you’re still healthy, the number on the scale doesn’t matter. people also carry weight in different ways. it’s unfortunate that in our society, weight carries moral judgement. when you think about it it doesn’t really make sense,

it’s just another means of oppression and control. that doesn’t mean it’s easy to shake the feeling, but putting it into context can help

That does make me feel a little better. The funny thing is I believe those things for other people but it’s so hard to internalize that for myself. I normally don’t weigh myself but I’m at my parents and old habits die hard 😅

ok i’m glad! and yeah it is really hard, im the same way with other things. that it’s ok for other people but not for me. it’s just a long process of retraining our brains to think about it differently but be gentle with yourself along the way 🫂

Thank you, I really appreciate that. I’ll keep reminding myself to try to be gentle.

And what if I already do? Since the weight gain is hormonal working out would not solve the problem.
