Having to save for retirement makes me mad. What do you mean about 25% of my income has to go to a future me that I don’t even know will exist. I could die tomorrow

I’m more frustrated about it because a lot of my family has died early. Lot of health issues run in both sides of my family so it’s not a morbid exaggeration that it’s very possible I don’t make it to retirement. But I still have to do it on the slim chance I live so I don’t starve as an old person

I’m self employed right now so there’s no employer matching or anything and I don’t make a ton so the amount I’d need to invest each month to get paid later takes up a LOT of my current pay

I did a calculator thing with the average earnings on retirement accounts combined with a very low estimate of how much I’d need a year when I retire and it told me how much I need to put in a month at my age to get there
