its quite literally a phenomenon where people are more likely to trust less credible sources because anything “reputable” is hiding something from them, manipulating them, deceitful, etc. I imagine it also makes them feel like they know something no one else does which is ego boosing & they have a community echo chamber

It’s literally this like they don’t really truly believe that the earth is flat but their distrust in institutions ilike the government, universities, corporations, etc is so deep that it outweighs logic so much so that they would rather believe in a flat earth than any authority figure
