I could see why they think that, because 1 Corinthians 7:3-5 basically says you have authority over your spouseās body and your spouse has authority over your body and not to deprive one another. HOWEVER, that is in the context of that we as humans are sexual beings, you should have sex in a marriage so you are not tempted to commit adultery. It doesnāt mean consent doesnāt exist and God 100% does NOT intend for you to be raped in your marriageš
Itās kind of like that but itās not that gross lol. Itās not like āyou can never say noā, itās more like have sex a healthy amount, humans are sexual and itās good for you to have sex within your marriage. Also in Ephesians 5:25 it says āHusbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for herā. So any marriage where the husband is using 1 Corinthians to take advantage of his wife is not behaving righteously.
The people who take advantage of it definitely make it seem like that. Iām sure it depends on your church and family but as someone from a very Christian background, I have never heard it taught that itās acceptable to abuse your relationship in that way. Any church that does teach is not teaching the Bible correctly.
Itās not saying that you canāt say no. Itās about intimacy and trust within your marriage, and that sex is part of that righteous marriage. Itās not saying you must have sex whenever your partner wants, itās saying be faithful to your marriage and keep it healthy (which includes having a sexual relationship with your spouse), and donāt let either of you be tempted to turn outside of your marriage.
spoiler alert: people still cheat even if theyāre married and even if theyāre having sex with you. you can still get cheated on. you can have a sexual relationship with anyone regardless of marital status but that doesnāt mean you have to have sex with them every time they might want to.
