i feel like this is the rhetoric that turns ppl against modern medicine tho bc it breaks trust. like yea those ppl suffered but it wasnt noble or necessary or voluntary suffering, it was just a betrayal that didnt rly need to happen that way for us to get where we are. If we rly want to restore trust in medicine we have to focus on like how standards have improved since then and what the medical community is doing to make up for it. but idk

henrietta lacks was the first case i learned about when it came to abuse of black people in medicine/healthcare. then tuskegee. i was blessed enough to have a badass black professor for anatomy who continued to educate me about the abuse black people have endured in medicine and healthcare. the things they’ve done to black people, like illegally using their bodies as cadavers, is sickening. i hate the way black people have been systemically treated with a burning passion.

and no, i am not saying everyone should use contraceptives like birth control just because of the unethical and inhumane way it was developed btw but like vaccines are the bare fucking minimum. so what if your arm hurts for a day or you feel a little sick? tough it out. i get horrendously sick when i get vaccines bc i’m immunocompromised but i still get them.

Yes! Like that’s ignorant and it’s disrespectful as all hell. POC, and the Holocaust experiments in Europe? SO MANY people suffered if not DIED to progress modern medicine. So many people (not the evil racist ones, fuck them) devoted their lives to fixing it. And you don’t wanna vaccinate yourself and your children at risk of DEATH because you wanna be “all natural”?! Give me a break. A lot of ppl died to make it safe, get wtv shots and treatments the doctor says. Thats ridiculous.

I am also immunocompromised. Like bro? I have all my shots, the doctor at my well woman says “oh we need to scan for-“ do it. “you’re due for xyz shot did you wan-“ do it. “i noticed something in our exam we feel we need to do a-“ girl DO IT. i care too much not only about my health, but about the sacrifices made my so many minority groups besides my own to heehee and haha about it. they died so its safe, if i need it, do it.

i’m jewish, i know unfortunately far too much about the holocaust experiments… but i pride myself on also being educated on just how much POCs like myself have suffered so that i can hopefully do right by us whether it comes to taking care of myself or trying to better the world for everyone. also, agreed with you. my pcp tells me i need to do something, i’m doing it. i also trust that she has my best interests in mind.

i appreciate ur cosign. i think that while both conversations stand alone, one cannot be had without the other. the precedent was set with us and its expanded into anyone ppl saw was disposable. i didn’t know until i listened to a hr long podcast series about mengele. i was horrified. its heartbreaking. we cant tell the full story and leave people out of it.

Yeah I actually kinda understand black ppl who don’t fuck with meds bc of her and other ppl, who’s to say the government isn’t doing that with us if they’ve done it before. I believe in modern medicine but we rlly gotta educate
