reactive parenting includes this and frankly should be more widely disseminated… parent based on the kid and their needs, and when they come home and say “but wearing pink is gay!” you talk with them and reason through why that’s wrong. people think theyve failed at parenting just because they’re kid says smth bigoted. no girl, your job starts here.
I mean I don’t think it’s right to demonize gender reveals, I think more often than not it’s used as a fun way of feeling more connected to your child and being able to share that joy with the rest of the family is beautiful. Gender reveals and how people treat their children and push ideas of gender roles have nothing to do with eachother.
very passionate abt this topic so apologies if I’m slightly off-topic. just very frustrated with how “raising gender neutral” often means things like no skirts but pants are ok (and other things that take masculine as the norm). parents need to be careful that they’re not enforcing an alternate gender norm through “gender neutral” parenting
Kids just need to be able to choose what they feel most comfortable and this is not off topic. I wish we’d just stop talking about gender in front of kids who DONT NEED TO KNOW OR CARE ABOUT SEX. The sexualization of kids is just there to help the patriarchy continue and even feminist/progressive parents fall RIGHT INTO THIS TRAP
This goes into another big rant I have about kids. Celebrate the POSSIBILITIES of who that child MAY BECOME. You are not entitled to dictate WHO that child will be and that child does not OWE YOU ANYTHING. You chose to have kids. They did not choose to live. Treat them as an autonomous being, clearly destinct from you or your desires!
