i’m so confused rn 😭 i got an std test a month or so ago and was negative for everything including herpes, but now i have a nasty ass cold sore that keeps pissing me off by bleeding. i haven’t had oral contact with anyone since the test 💀 wtf going on

the genital/std type and the cold sore type are two different blood tests. if you were only tested for STDs you likely only got a HSV-2 test. you can go back and ask to be tested for HSV-1 to see if that’s actually what it is.

people can get cold sores without oral contact i’m pretty sure. it’s very common. i got them before i was active w/ anyone

cold sores are always caused by herpes right? i can’t think abt how i might have contracted it within the past 30 days

fuuuuhhhck okay thank you 😵‍💫 i’ll probably ask for that at some point. ik it’s extremely common but i have a phobia of disease / infection so it’s been making me anxious

could've been dormant in u for years or decades. tracing it would be impossible if hsv1

i never once thought twice abt my best friend tht had it. she hardly ever gets active sores and id never think twice about sharing food and drinks with her. i would only be cautious if u have an active sore but other than that theres no need to worry. it's such a common thing to have and a majority of ppl have it are asymptomatic

Yup the virus lies latent in your nervous system for life and any stressful things can trigger an outbreak

i think you can get OTC stuff to treat it
