as far as i know, it’s the same reason ppl say grape or unalive. words censored to avoid the algorithm which have made their way into normal language. or it’s just an abbreviation but im pretty sure it’s the former

People have been using it as slang for a while now (before the whole algorithm censorship). It’s just a shorter way to say it while being phonetically close (yt = why-tuh). So like when Twitter had a character limit, people would use that instead. Plus people are just lazy and like to keep things short and easy
