The “man vs bear” argument genuinely perpetuates such harmful, stigmatizing stereotypes.

I’m upset that “I choose the bear” is a phrase that’s used to address an entire group of individuals. Rather than specifying what type of bear. It perpetuates a completely harmful stereotype of all bears being dangerous. This contributes to a culture of poaching bears indiscriminately, which already is a problem in society.

First of all, the type of bear is not specified. For instance, if you “choose the bear” and it’s a POLAR bear, that’s an apex predator that will definitely kill you. They’re akin to leopard seals - they view humans as prey.

If you choose the brown bear, still harmful. Yes. But not an apex predator. Use reason and stay away from their cubs. Choose the black bear, you’re more than likely fine if you don’t act threateningly.

Hate this whole thing bc if you’ve ever been face to face with a bear, you KNOW the terror. It’s the most frightening thing ever. I’ve encountered men in the woods and it was 1/100th as intimidating

I’d still chose a polar bear over a man

Pretty obvious that people just say bear to try to prove a point, but it’s so illogical that the point is lost…
