I feel like it’s *heavily* dependent on fabric type. some very light or very stretchy fabrics don’t lend themselves well to pockets

yeah some definitely but a lot of women’s clothes don’t have pockets where there SHOULD be pockets. like my blazers and suit jackets for work almost never have a real pocket even though they already put the fake pocket outline there??
