dont think of it as "selling urself" think of it as "these ppl dont know who the fuck I am or how i'd be perfect for this role if I gave them the chance so let me tell them about stuff i've done before that's the same as (insert job description here)"

why don’t you like the idea? it just means to make yourself look good in the eye of the employer by showing how you can be an asset such as your skills, past job experiences, work values etc. you have to sell yourself if you want to stand out especially considering most applicants will be as well. think of it as bragging about yourself minus the cocky

Smth you said in your second sentence why I also hate the idea. “Showing how you can be an asset.” Our value is placed on how well/efficiently we can make money for a business, but not on us as people. Maybe it’s just my experiences but it feels like employers expect ppl to act like cogs in a machine

maybe i’m just not that confident, i don’t want to say that i can do something that i actually can’t deliver on or prove

because they do, in MOST workplaces you are nothing but a cog in the wheel. Just another number who gets work done for the higher ups, like most places dont give a fuck about u or who u are they just want money 🤷‍♀️ and thats just how it is, like sure its fucked up but thats the reality we live in, and u either gotta get comfortable with selling yourself or spending a WHILE looking for a job that sees you as more than that

i mean ur not saying that u cant do something unless u explicitly tell them that, which im assuming ur not. And a good place will train you in the first few days or however long of you getting employed there. Just tell them what you do know how to do and how thats relevant to the position ur applying for and thats it 🤷‍♀️
