I feel like long hair is associated with femininity so when women cut their hair short it’s seen as subverting a beauty standard. Short hair is often perceived as masculine.

When I cut my hair short because I had heat damage I got so much shit from family and a couple friends. Ppl just treat you differently in my experience. I didn’t really start getting compliments or positive attention (not that I need them) until I grew my hair to like a bob bc it was paid short before
