This is actually more common than people believe, a lot of people just don’t talk about it. Several of my friends and myself ended our first year with low GPAs. You worked hard and you can come back from this I promise 🙏🙏

I finished my first year with a 2.3 (I was severely depressed and burnt out) and I’m about to graduate magna cum laude with a 3.75 GPA. You still have time!!

i’m a first gen student too and dropped out after my first year because i basically flunked out due to depression and personal issues. i’m finally back in school 3 years later and striving to keep my grades up. everyone has their own path and end of the day you will likely still get a good job even if your gpa is a 2.2 or 3.9

Hi also first gen here. I completed my first year of college with a 2.5 as well, with some summer classes (retaking), and cutting down on ECs to focus on school more. I made it back up to a 3.5! It’s possible, college is hard, just reach out for help and rmbr what u rlly value during school.

as a fellow first gen this is soooooo real!!!! tbh just try to be more intentional/ set goals with timelines that you wanna achieve. i think this has helped me but again you completed your first year which is an accomplishment in itself!! not having the guidance as a first gen student does make the experience slightly more difficult! at the end of the day you’re breaking generational curses just by going to college. don’t be too hard on yourself! talk to God and come up with a game plan!🩷🩷

I started off like that as well. But as the semesters progressed I managed my studying better and soon I would make either honor or deans list. I am set to graduate with a 3.0+ cumulative gpa.

My gpa freshman year was 2.7, nobody really prepares you for how hard it truly is to maintain something above a 3.0. Depending on your major. If you’re like super unsatisfied, look into what repeating a course does for your GPA. Thats how I raised mine. Pick out the ones that lowered it and ask your advisor if it would just replace the grades.

You’re a first gen so they have no room to talk having not even goin to college. Don’t let people who’ve never been in your position make you feel bad love. I was failing at least one class every semester and it took me two extra years bc of my major change but I’ll be graduating next spring. It’s not the end of the world and ik it’s challenging but you got this girl!!

Fellow first gen who flunked out on my first try and is now part way through a PhD: Your journey is yours. You see all your struggles and know every hurdle. They’ll likely only see success - not what it took to get there. You got this! You can do it!

Im so proud of you!! As someone who is estranged from their parents for reasons close to this, life is soo much better when you can be your own cheer leader. Luckily you are at the most supportive school ever. Make an appointment with anyone at os3 (they are all amazing) but i recommend joanne goldwater. And if you truley follow their recommendations and the sky is the limit
