like i genuinely believe this movie was so ahead of its time. a children’s movie made in 2002 showing the brutality westward expansion and military abuse towards the indigenous population, criticizing american colonialism, actually respecting indigenous peoples instead of playing into negative stereotypes (AND actually consulting lakota people for accuracy in the script)!!! i feel like children’s movies now are so shallow and don’t care about making meaningful stories
